Jeff & Teri Leicher

United States of America

Jeff and Teri Leicher have devoted more than four decades to sharing their passion for the ocean while helping shape sustainable dive tourism in Hawaii. Since meeting in Hawaii in the late 1970s, the couple has built a lasting partnership rooted in exploration, education, and environmental stewardship.

Together, they played a pivotal role in growing Jack’s Diving Locker into one of the most respected and successful dive operations in the Kona region. Through their leadership, the business became known not only for exceptional dive experiences but also for its strong commitment to safety, education, and marine conservation.

The Leichers have also been instrumental in protecting Hawaii’s fragile coral reef ecosystems. Recognizing the damage caused by anchors at heavily visited dive sites, they championed the installation of permanent mooring systems. This effort was carried out in partnership with the Malama Kai Foundation, which Teri co-founded. Today, hundreds of moorings have been installed throughout the Hawaiian Islands, significantly reducing reef damage and promoting more sustainable diving practices.

Their operation has also helped bring global recognition to unique underwater experiences, including the world-famous Kona Manta Ray Night Dive and the innovative Pelagic Magic blackwater dive. These offerings have redefined how divers engage with marine life, providing unforgettable encounters while fostering respect for the ocean’s delicate ecosystems.

Through their enduring commitment to conservation, education, and responsible tourism, Jeff and Teri Leicher have made a profound impact on Hawaii’s diving community. Their work continues to ensure that the islands’ extraordinary underwater environments remain protected, accessible, and inspiring for generations of divers to come.
